Abstract: Urban expansion is a complex spatiotemporal conversion process.Cellular automaton (CA) is a grid dynamic with features including spatiotemporal discrete and state concise, using simple local rules to simulate the spatiotemporal evolution process of the complex systems.CA has many advantages in characterizing urban growth, expansion and simulating land-use evolution.Based on the GeoSOS on ArcGIS platform, this paper simulated the urban expansion of Changchun city during 1995-2005 and 2005-2015 by using Logistic-CA,ANN-CA,and DT-CA model, respectively. The results indicate that Logistic-CA and DT-CA models are more suitable for simulating individual land-use type,ANN-CA is better to simulate land-use evolution involving multiple land-use types. Then,we use the DT-CA model, which performs best overall,to predict the urban expansion of Changchun city during 2015-2025.The simulation results can provide valuable reference information and useful data in making macro decisions and in planning land-use by government agencies.
