Abstract: The boundary of urban built-up area is an important basis of urban land resource management and urban expansion management. In this paper, a method based on taxi track data is proposed, using multi-resolution regular grid contrast analysis and Densi-Graph threshold determination method to automatically extract urban built district boundaries. In this study, taxi track point data of Beijing city in 2008 is used to calculate and extract the boundary of urban built-up area according to this method. And the extraction results are consistent with the distribution map of Beijing's land cover in 2008. Besides, given in China's Urban Statistical Yearbook, the built-up area of Beijing municipality in 2008 is 1 310.94 km2. And the area of the built-up area extracted by this method is about 1 077.33 km2, so the extraction accuracy is about 82.18%, indicating that this method can get the accurate range of built-up area.
