Abstract: Because of the uncontinuity and the oversaturation of DMSP/OLS stable nighttime light images, the data cannot be compared with each other directly. Therefore,it's necessary to calibrate images before using them.In this paper,a new method is proposed to calibrate the nighttime light data, including mutual correction between sensors, continuity correction and oversaturation correction. The 34 images of 1992-2013 time series are corrected using this method systematically. And then the evaluation for the result is carried out, including visual evaluation, quantitative evaluation, relative evaluation and advantage analysis. After calibration, the continuity and stability of the images are greatly improved, and the linear correlation between nighttime light data and the economic data is stronger.Error introduction in the traditional method is avoided. This method leads to a good calibration result.
