Abstract: The correlation of spatial variation in surface temperature with building density in Zhongshan district,Dalian city is investigated over the period 2002-2014.This paper utilizes remote sensing data and multi-source land use data, which evaluates using a combination of single-window algorithm and correlation analysis. The results show that during 2002-2014,most of the high-temperature grid cells distribute along Jiefang Road and Zhongnan Road and thenorthwest part of Zhongshan district, and the temperature increases obviously. The temperature increases significantly after an area of land in the northeastern part of the district is reclaimed from the ocean. The high density and relatively highdensity plots are distributed mainly in the commercial district of Qingniwa-Tianjin Street. Most of the low density, relatively low density, and mediumdensity plots are distributed along Jiefang Road and Zhongnan Road.Surface temperature shows moderate correlation with building density (0.514 and 0.537,in 2002 and 2014,respectively).
