Abstract: In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the influence of aerosol on the environment. Aerosol optical depth (AOD) is one of the most important factors to characterize aerosol. This study was based on the MODIS L1B data from March to September in 2016 and the AOD of Xuzhou city,Jiangsu province was remote sensing inversion monitored by dark pixel method and 6S radiation transmission model. Based on the results of inversion of AOD,the temporal and spatial variation and different characteristics of AOD in Xuzhou city in 2016 are analyzed. The analysis results show that the AOD values of the different geographic units are consistent rule,of which the thickness value is the largest in July, the second in May,the smaller in March, the lowest in April,June,August and September. The AOD values of Tongshan county,Pizhou city and Xuzhou city are obviously higher than the average level of Xuzhou area. The AOD values of Xinyi and Suining areas are relatively high, and the AOD of Peixian and Fengxian areas and so on are the lowest.
